THE ANSWERS

TO THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WE RECEIVE ABOUT APOGEE

Are you a school? How does this model work?

Apogee 307 is not a registered school but an education campus designed to support homeschooling families. We partner with parents, recognizing them as their child’s primary educators, to create personalized learning experiences tailored to each family’s needs. Our flexible model allows families to engage as much or as little as desired—whether attending full days on campus with their child, sending their child for independent learning, participating in afternoon sessions, or accessing curriculum and resources for travel or home-based education.

How do you know what to teach? What does your curriculum look like?

We craft personalized curricula to meet Wyoming’s core subjects (W.S. § 21-4-101(a)(vi)), fostering real-world skills and common sense through the Socratic Method. Inspired by Finland’s phenomenon-based learning, which boosts engagement by 20% and problem-solving by 8% (2021 study), our approach empowers students to think critically and thrive.

- Family Interviews: Align curricula with family values and goals (e.g., agriculture for farm families, STEM for engineering enthusiasts).

- Spark Illumination Assessments: Tailor instruction to each student’s learning style and intelligence type(s).

- IXL Leveling: Identify academic strengths and gaps for a sequentially progressive curriculum.

- Research-Based Frameworks: Use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to ensure accessibility and holistic growth.

We leverage these resources to design engaging Project-Based Learning (PBL) units, plan enriching field trips, select inspiring guest speakers, develop thought-provoking topics for Socratic discussions and debates, teach essential life skills, and thoughtfully shape daily instruction and discovery experiences. What ages/grades do you accept?

Apogee 307 accepts students from kindergarten through 8th grade, with exceptions made for 9th through 12th graders on a case-by-case basis. We are actively developing a pathway that allows high school students to earn dual-enrollment college credits alongside their high school courses. Additionally, we are working toward expanding our campus to become a fully accredited university hall, offering academic programs up to the PhD level.

What are you views on public education?

At Apogee 307, we recognize that many educators in public schools are doing their best within a system constrained by hierarchical authority and legal mandates, which often limits significant change from within. While we believe public education should remain an option for families who choose it, we advocate for a broader spectrum of choices—private schools, homeschool co-ops, parochial schools, virtual learning, micro-schools, and more. Every family knows what’s best for their unique situation, shaped by factors like values, interests, strengths, religion, language, or capabilities. For example, a family on a farm may prioritize hands-on, practical learning with an agriculture focus, while a family passionate about engineering may seek a STEM-focused curriculum. All need the ability to read and write, but the focus of what to learn should be made available as soon as possible—why hold any back?

All families contribute to taxes; all should have the freedom to choose the educational path that best meets their needs. Last we checked, the government does not reside in every household (thank God); thus, they cannot fully understand the diverse values and needs of each family. Some argue that offering varied educational options creates biases or seclusion, but we see this diversity as a strength. Fairness in education, as often taught in public schools, means providing what each child needs, not giving everyone the same thing. If a public school’s resources suit a family that wants to learn from a dual-language path, that’s wonderful; if a nature-based micro-school better aligns with a child’s interest in botany, that’s equally valuable.

At Apogee 307, we support families in crafting personalized education, fostering a community where choice empowers every child to thrive. One closing comment: if public education has left families or parents feeling ill-equipped to educate their own children or choose the most meaningful course, then what does that say about the quality of education when everyone gets the exact same thing, as most are products of this system.

Is apogee 307 faith-based?

At Apogee 307, we embrace a Christian worldview—reflective of the values that shaped our nation’s founding—as the foundation of our educational approach, fostering an environment of moral and intellectual growth. While not a religious institution and requiring no declaration of faith, we offer optional spiritual activities, such as morning flagpole prayer. Families may choose religious or secular curricula and engage with apologetics through our distinctive Classical+ program, which blends classical education with ethical reasoning. Biblical studies are not a specific focus, ensuring accessibility for all families comfortable with our faith-integrated approach. United by the Apogee Code of Ethics—benevolence, courage, honor, honesty, loyalty, respect, and rectitude—our community welcomes diverse families committed to ethical and intellectual excellence.

Is this compliant with state requirements?

Apogee 307 is fully compliant with Wyoming’s homeschooling laws, as outlined in W.S. § 21-4-101(a)(v) and (vi). Our Tailored Curriculum Overview Flowchart ensures adherence by using family interviews and assessments to design personalized K-12 curricula that meet the state’s requirements for a “home-based educational program.” We provide a sequentially progressive curriculum covering the seven mandated core subjects—reading, writing, mathematics, civics, history, literature, and science. Through resources like project-based learning (PBL), civics curriculum, and field trips, we support parents, legal guardians, or act as designated persons to deliver education tailored to each child’s needs while adhering to state standards.

What is the Socratic Method

At Apogee 307, the Socratic Method is our foundation for teaching students to think critically and practically, seeking truth beyond prescribed answers or personal biases. We believe every story has at least three sides—the perspectives of those involved and the truth itself—prompting students to explore diverse viewpoints through challenging, open-ended questions. These questions spark curiosity and drive discussions rooted in real-world problems, fostering common sense and practical skills for life beyond the classroom. Rather than lecturing, our coaches guide learners to listen actively, reason clearly, and defend ideas with evidence, building resilience and adaptability. As a homeschooling support campus for K-8 (with exceptions for 9-12), we weave the Socratic Method into tailored curricula compliant with Wyoming’s core subjects (W.S. § 21-4-101(a)(vi)), using project-based learning and field trips to connect learning to real-world applications. Whether led by parents or our team as designated persons, this approach empowers students to solve problems, think independently, and lead with confidence, guided by our Code of Ethics—benevolence, courage, honor, honesty, loyalty, respect, and rectitude.
